Restless and bereft in Victorian England, Margaret Prior finds herself at Millbank Women's Prison as a “lady visitor.” With a furtive flash of violet, one prisoner catches her eye. Soon, Margaret’s world spins wildly out of control as she is pulled into Selina’s spiritualist orbit and finds herself entranced by a new language of séances and queer influences. Part romance, part ghost story, Affinity examines one woman's quest for connection, liberty, and even love, in a straight-laced society.
